Assessment of Untreated Coffee Wastes for the Removal of Chromium (VI) from Aqueous Medium

Industrial discharges loaded with heavy metals present several problems for aquatic ecosystems and human health. In this context, the study aims to evaluate potential of raw spent coffee grounds remove chromium from an aqueous medium. A structural textural was carried out by FTIR, XRD, TGA analysis. The optimum conditions removal Cr(VI), a solution initial concentration 100 mg/l, were adsorbent dose 2.5 g/l, pH 4.0, contact time 90 min. adsorption equilibrium results show that Langmuir isotherm best describes process capacity 42.9 mg/g kinetics follows pseudosecond-order model. calculated thermodynamic parameters showed is exothermic spontaneous. activation energy value (Ea) indicated retention physisorptive in nature. regeneration three eluents, among which HCl best. Finally, brief cost estimation great as low-cost adsorbent.
